Sony Vaio VGN-NW21MF Not Turn
This PC Sony is different from the others that I have so far treated. Different type of problem that is not in the PC that does not turn on with obvious problems to the video card, but rather the type of video card.
Usually problems with these Sony Vaio relate to models of some have before, with nVidia cards that after a while tend to virtually ‘unstuck’ (or better dissaldarsi) given the high heat that reach and who can not disperse with duty.
This PC that I happened mounts instead an ATI video card that theoretically should not give any problems …
There is also to say that the computer in question led me in very bad conditions: nothing strange, it is usually always the case, the pc that I deliver are often really put this lily.
But unfortunately this was visibly open more than once … missing screws everywhere, we have messed a bit before you entrust it to me .. And they did wrong also because this pc theoretically should still be under warranty but put so is totally compromised.
Here then we will try to make a reflow as usual with some tricks.
We begin with a look to the aesthetics:
Like all Vaio also this unit is very aesthetically appealing, with a plastic shell (instead of aluminum / magnesium as the top of the range) and a nice white color.
Label underneath we find the following acronyms: PCG-7186M
Svitiamo all screws, detach all panels. Afterwards we begin to disconnect all devices, burner, harddisk and memories.
Now, before you remove the cover underneath the body, turned around, the pc and lifting the monitor we provide to disconnect the keyboard, inserting a block in the slot.
Note that the keyboard has a front grille. We can also remove it (perhaps it is useful to perform after a cleaning of the keyboard).
Detach all flat and plugs under the keyboard:
Now turn upside down again pc and raise the deck below. This is what you’ll see:
Take the screws that hold the heat sink is that the fan to the motherboard
Unscrew all the screws, remove all flat and plugs to isolate the motherboard from the rest:
Let us reverse the motherboard and detach the battery which is connected with double sided tape and a plug:
First we make a clean to the motherboard, with contact spray dry (I recommend dry, must not be the classic oily spray that use electricians … this spray is made for electrical circuits / SMD).
Later proceed to a reflow or a complete reball.
We start by warming both the motherboard through the preheat plate that with the hot air, watching the whole with a thermocouple.
Arrived at about 220 °, after a few minutes, we can with the appropriate pomp aspiring disconnect the processor from the motherboard.
Next step is to eliminate, with the help of the braid, soldering iron and flux, the whole pond residue being careful not to take away even the tracks ..
Now let’s work the processor ..
Cleaning with the previous method ..
After cleaning up to the new flussante..questa time with different characteristics from the previous one ..
Now select the stencil and we fix it with Kapton tape to the workstation. We can use the stencil as in generic photo or one specially designed for Sony Vaio: stencil go6200 / go7600
Now it touches the ball of tin are used for this processor the ball size 0.6 …
Finally we place in a painstaking processor on the motherboard, and we maintain a reflow at 200 ° for resolder …
This is the tool I used in numerous repairs.
In the end we put a bit of thermal paste on the processor and GPU and richiudiamo everything.
Obviously the result is very dependent on the initial state of the PC.
In my case the computer is turned on for very little then died finally: this only because the PC that I was handed had been tampered with several times in a very rough, missing screws almost everywhere and probably also had electrical problems …
In many other cases, I’ve had more success, with pc restistono in time.
With the information that the public can still give it a try (only if the PC is not under warranty .. checked before at Sony with the label printed serial ..).
