But back to our Apple MacBook Pro A1286. This model features nVidia graphics processor and as I mentioned earlier can give several glitches:
– Vertical Lines;

Then we begin to dismantle the MacBook Pro A1286. The first thing to do is to protect the glass screen with a few sheets of paper or rubber thousand bubbles to avoid destroying it or scratch it. Then we place the mac on a clean and avoid scratching the rubberized shell.
We begin to loosen all the screws that surround the body below.
After unscrewing the small screws let us help with some tools in plastic (plastic screwdriver for mobile phones or similar …) to separate the bodies.
After opening the body we find ourselves in front of the contents of the mac.
Unlike other models already treated on this site, on the A1286 model I had to remove the battery. This is because the battery connector is inserted parallel to the logic board and is almost impossible to remove it without removing the battery.
Svitiamo then all the screws that secure it. It takes a special screwdriver because the screws have a crack at Y.
After removing all the screws we can slightly lift the top of the battery, making sure that the cord is still attached to the logic board …
Now that the battery is free, we can finally pull its connector …
Via the battery !!!
And now have fun to pull all the plugs, connectors and flat we see connected to the logic board … making sure to remove them gently lifting them or pulling them maybe with the help of some tools in plastic.
The plug of the video cable has a hook that is stationary: detach too.
Among the various connectors and flat to detach are those of the DVD player, the sata hard drive, connectors for keyboard, touchpad, LED, etc. Obviously we must also disconnect the plug of the two fans.For some small pins is better help us with some tweezers because if we pull the cord risk romperli..mentre other detach levering upwards.
Some connectors are held in place by metal plates fastened with tiny screws.
Detach also ventoline …
Now we can begin to undo all the screws holding the logic board and remove the motherboard from the case ..
But eye, before removing it completely we must detach the connector plug magsafe top right.
And here’s the logic board. We can now proceed to disassemble the speaker and microphone on the right.
Now I remove the heat sink:
Before starting the rework the logic board must provide a complete cleaning of the components, removing the old thermal paste and all traces of dirt and polvede from the logic board. Sometimes logicboard are talmetne dirty that I practically wash them with isopropyl alcohol. And here’s the result: the motherboard unvarnished.

Before starting the actual work on the logic board can remove the silicone present along the edges of the BGA to work. It is not mandatory and in fact in this repair I did not, as the case of reflow.
We begin to heat the preheating plate and get ready to work reflow or reballing on the three components.
We begin with the flux most suited to our needs, spingiamone below the components working long edges.
Then proceed with a reflow of the first component, the nVidia graphics chip, the main suspect for the problem of vertical lines … then move on to the processor dedicated to the management of the chipset, nVidia anchesso …
The procedure so far described relates to a reflow, that the MacBook Pro is usually very good. However if you plan to totally replace the graphics chip or the ball of tin with new ones containing lead (reballing), following the appropriate temperature curves we can proceed to this other type of intervention obviously much more invasive and delicate.
To redo the pond obviously be using a special stencil proceeding to risaldatura precise component tab. This intervention I foresee only for the graphics processor. When replacing the video processor normally purchase the component already equipped with tin, ready to be welded, but not always on the Italian market are available in this configuration (with tin lead ready to be welded).

As we leave the cool logicboard, settle the fans and we clean for good heat sinks. Apriamole and puliamole fully lubricate some points with lithium grease.
I remove completely the two fans to clean them thoroughly …
First I clean with compressed air and contact spray to lubricate secco..poi with lithium grease.
To complete the job I apply silicone thermal conductive to the edges of the components on which I worked and then the excellent thermal grease to conduct heat and silicone heat to fine tune the components on which I worked.
After this work remount everything and do the first tests of activation and operation …
Result? Fully functional …
