This time I present a work on a Dell Inspiron 1545 PP41L. This model features an ATI graphics chipset that also in this version got crazy … with obvious problems of ignition / start.
This time to solve the problem you can proceed in different ways. The simplest involves a reflow, which in many cases if done in a workmanlike manner is durable .
For workmanlike mean anything homemade methods such as blow dryers or ovens … well nothing solutions offered by pseudo-experts improvised on YouTube …
Otherwise, you can proceed with the replacement of the ball of tin (with new lead-containing) or complete replacement of the video processor with a brand new one (if your motherboard is intact and fully functional).
As usual we have to disassemble the entire PC, although usually the Dell machines are built to be disassembled easily: often are sold with contracts of on-site service for which replacements of internal parts should be facilitated by hardware easily accessible.As always screws Remove all the screws of the base, detach the covers that hide the internal parts.
Characteristic of this is that Dell sinks are one of the first things, as opposed to other handsets, which must be removed.
By removing sinks see the heart of the computer: processor, chipset and ATI graphics chip.
We dismantle the present frame above the keyboard, including the power button.
Take the screws that secure the keyboard and rimuoviamola unlatching the flat from the connector.
We ride the cables WiFi card, unhook all connectors and flat.
Remove the remaining screws that are on the top.
Then it’s up to the video connector and to other cables and connectors including the bluetooth (on the left in the picture you see only the cable without coupon already removed previously).
Take the screws that secure the display to the body and let’s remove it.
With the help of a thick plastic we separate the two bodies: see the motherboard appear from below.
We dismantle the peripheral parts and Take the screws marked with a triangle.
We must be able to remove entirely the main motherboard separating it from everything else: there are still some flat and connectors to detach …
We can then remove the motherboard from the chassis. Note that the fan is fixed on the body: we will have to take it apart to clean it later, but for now let’s focus only on the motherboard.
Prepare the motherboard Dell Inspiron 1545 PP41L: remove the backup battery, the old thermal paste this processor and puliamola well helping with paper, isopropyl alcohol and a brush.

Using thermal paste softer and lighter can keep a low profile anyway: if I had used a paste more technical (type artic) and dense I created a thickness too high. Also some pastes tend to harden over time creating too much of the voids of air: in this case, so I prefer the thermal paste white – however – in this case is of excellent quality.
I put in a quantity slightly higher, to prevent the copper send in short – when activated – some components soldered on the chip; I am also careful not to overflowing the dough over the component.
On the top of the lamella of copper in this case I do not put any pasta nor thermal pad.
I try to mount the machine summarily text and a first power …. Result ??? The Dell Inspiron 1545 PP41L lights !! Obviously we have to test it to see if the repair is reliable and if the temperature stable …
Then remount the entire machine control and first values of CPU and GPU temperature and the behavior of the fan.
