Compaq Presario CQ56 Overheats And Stops Working After A Few Minutes, Dying.
A customer brought me this laptop. The problem is the same: the computer that is hard to light, heat and sudden shut down after a few minutes with the fan running at full.
The goal is to completely clean the interior, the fan, the heatsink and make a change of thermal paste.
We start disassembling The underside of the PC, disconnect the battery and all the covers:
We dismantle HardDisk, WiFi card, card blutooth and RAM:
Once unscrewed all the screws we can disassemble the keyboard, playing at the top on the latches that mantengon to the chassis with a flat screwdriver or rather some tools in thin plastic:
We lift the keyboard and detach the plug. Below we will find other screws, connectors and flat. Detach obviously everything.
Then remove the upper part of the body coming to the point of seeing the motherboard.
Unfortunately we have not finished as this model brings the fan and heat sinks to the other party – hidden – the motherboard so it should be removed completely to get to clean them.
Then detach the remaining connectors and flat and the other screws holding the motherboard to the chassis below.
Finally we can then remove the motherboard from the chassis:
We observe from the side heatsink-fan assembly that will be completely disassembled and cleaned with compressed air with the help of a brush.
In the picture below you can understand what the problem was:
– Sink completely blocked by dirt;
– Pasta thermally conductive virtually ‘cooked’.
After cleaning her going and replaced with a silver thermal paste, richiudiamo everything and test the PC.
In particular, you need to check for ten minutes the temperature of the PC by monitoring with an applet to ensure that the intervention is managed properly.
I hope that the information will be useful to someone! if you have problems .. contact me!
