How To Change Password Admin On MacOS OSX

Enforcing, Reset Or Change Password To Mac

change password mac

This time I present a method to change the password of admin on MacOS.

The procedure works on virtually all systems MacOS (including Mavericks) and is considered an emergency procedure to be used that is when for some reason you want to force the change password of a user administrator.

The normal mode so no one is explained below, the procedure described here provides a functionality from single user (SINGLE USER MODE).

A premise on the keyboard: in SINGLE USER MODE keypad is automatically set in the US, so some keys do not produce the whitespace character normally associated with that key.

For example:

– To key ‘-‘ (hyphen) must press with ‘?’ (Exclamation mark);

– To type ‘/’ (slash) we press the button at the lower right with “_” (sottotratto / underscore).

We are ready? Here’s how to do in a few steps:

Access to the single-user mode (SINGLE USER MODE).

  • Turn off your Mac completely, without restarting (power off);
  • Use your left hand to hold down the ‘Apple’ (or  ‘control’ or ‘CMD’ button to the left of the ‘Space’) on the keyboard while pressing the letter ‘S’ . Press and hold both and not release them until the next step.
  • Turn on the computer, making sure to keep still holding down the ‘CMD’ and ‘S’.
  • Wait until you see white letters on a black screen scroll: now we can release the keys are in SINGLE USER mode MDE.The Mac is ready to continue when you see the word localhost: / root # (prompt) or something like the last line on the screen.

Check that there are no errors on the disk.

Now one of the steps plan to make a fsck check that a disk to correct any errors in the file system. The operation is not invasive and does not make substantial changes to the file system, but you’ll want to check for any hidden problems that could worsen the situation.

Immediately after the last line of the screen we type #

fsck fy and press [Enter];

When the process is finished (about two or three minutes) we will see again the prompt localhost: / root #.

Mount the disc to make changes.

Before you can reset your password must mount the disk to make changes to the files.

At the prompt, type

mount -uw /                        and press [Enter].

Reset your password.

And here we are in the final stages.

  1. Type cd / Users [Enter].
  2. Type ls [Enter]. A list of all accounts currently on the Mac, with ‘Public’
  3. Type passwd <username> [Enter], replacing <username> account you want to reset, write it exactly as directed after the ls command.
  4. Will request a new password, we begin to type it and when we finish we press [Enter]. (The cursor will not move, but the password is typed). We confirm the password when prompted.

Caution: If after running the command passwd will get the following error: ” the daemon encountered an error processing request “, you need to run another command before passwd.

However, this may invalidate your keychain Mac , costrindendovi to recreate it (you will lose all your passwords stored on your mac for each program). To recreate the keychain follow the steps down.

If you do not care this thing but want to force a password change, this is the command:

launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.opendirectoryd.plist

followed by

passwd <username> [Enter]

as was done previously.

Reboot the Mac and try the new password.

At the prompt, we type reboot [Enter] or exit [Enter] to turn off completely.

The Computer Will Reboot And You Will Be Able To Use The New Pass Word On Mac.
